Not everyone who decides to spend holiday at the Baltic Sea is aware of the history and uniqueness of the sea. What distinguishes it, what is surprising about it and what it has to offer to tourists?

The Baltic is the world's youngest sea. It is "only" twelve thousand years old and was formed as a result of the retreat of the glacier from the land. The shape familiar to anyone knowing today's maps was not obtained until about a thousand years ago! It is also the world's sweetest sea - it is characterized by a salinity five times lower than the oceanic average, and the reason for this is the climate and the relatively low temperature and the low rate of water evaporation that goes with it.

With an amber history that is many millions years old, there is no shortage of seekers of these nuggets of honey resin on the coast. The attraction of looking out for them on the seashore attracts the most seekers in autumn, although it is also possible to find this natural souvenir in summer. Located in Kolobrzeg, the amber museum is an extremely interesting journey through the history, properties and mysteries of the "gold of the north", which can be fun not just for the young ones.

Tsunamis, which are rather associated with exotic, tropical countries, have also occurred more than once in the Baltic Sea, and this has been confirmed by research conducted under the direction of Dr. Andrew Piotrowski. In the 18th century it also affected Kolobrzeg! The first phenomenon described in the chronicles dates back to the 15th century, and there it was called the "sea bear" most likely because of the distinctive sound accompanying its arrival.

The history behind the Baltic Sea is fascinating and certainly disenchants the perception of it as an unattractive travel destination. Combined with the attractions that Kolobrzeg has to offer, this makes it the perfect place for a leisurely trip!
