What do hotels get stars for?

08.08.2022

The categorization of hotels is intended to standardize what a hotel guest can expect at a given establishment. The star rating system is a confirmation that a number of requirements have been met. These requirements include the high level of service, the conditions in which the hotel is kept and various entertainment that the hotel has to offer its customers such as spa, organizing events or providing the place where customers can play casino without deposit.
The Union Stars classification works not only in Europe, but all over the world. While the requirements for individual stars may vary from country to country, there are rules that are the same for hotels regardless of the region in which they are located.

In Poland, stars from 1 to 5 are awarded by the Marshal of the province on the basis of strict regulations contained in the 1997 Law on Tourist Services, which was amended in September 2010. The committee evaluating a facility includes representatives of the Sanitary Inspection Service, fire department, construction supervision and the hotel industry, among others.

To be called a "hotel," a facility must have at least 10 rooms, mostly single and double rooms, and provide a wide range of guest services. The stars awarded are often mistakenly equated solely with the quality of the hotel's services and facilities. In practice, they make little reference to the prevailing atmosphere or quality of service. The classification is influenced by criteria such as size of the living area, bedroom and bathroom facilities, catering and reception services in the facility, as well as additional complementary services.

3-star hotels are facilities with higher standards. In Poland, in order to obtain such a rating, rooms must have basic furnishings - a bed, a closet or closet niche, a bedside table or table, a desk or table, a chair for each guest, a mirror, a wall rack, night, work and overhead lighting, a place to store luggage, and direct and easy access to at least one electrical outlet at the work area. A double room in a 3-star hotel must have a minimum area of 14 sqm.

Complementary amenities include carpeting throughout the room or rugs at each bed, curtains, blinds or shades, drinking utensils for each guest, bottled water, radio, television, telephone, stationery, shoe and clothing cleaning kit, and a needlepoint.

All rooms in the 3-star hotel have separate bathrooms. Bathrooms should have a bathtub or stall, sink, mirror, trashcan, soap and towels. Facilities should include a restaurant (unless such a facility is within 500 meters of the hotel), a coffee shop and room service.

Additional hotel services at 3-star establishments include Wi-Fi, a public meeting room, laundry, ironing and cleaning of linen and clothing, the sale of cosmetics and personal care products, and wellness or spa facilities.
There should be daily room service and a change of linens and towels every third day or at the guest's request. A bilingual reception desk available 24 hours a day is mandatory for facilities in this category.

The list of requirements that the committee takes into account when awarding a classification totals as many as 52 points. Some of them are listed above.
At New Skanpol Hotel, in addition to meeting the standards of a good *** hotel, we strive to provide the highest quality services and create an atmosphere in which every guest will feel comfortable.
